It was just one of those nights. You know, the kind that indicate to your better half that you're 'trying to connect'. The type of evening that screams to the spousal unit that having an evening together is a good thing. Plus... it didn't hurt abit except for the three and a half hours lost. We watched the Oscars together.
I've always loved Steve Martin, and I like Alec Baldwin too... so the hosts were fine. But the whole thing just didn't seem to have any pizzazz. No real BIG star power for me (I don't know half these new kids today!).
BUT the one thing I liked was the fact that for the first time in a long time, Best Picture went to a solid flick that nobody has really seen. The Academy actually ignored the most titanic sized flick of them all in Avatar and went a different way. Box office was NOT the deciding factor. Refreshing. Big budgets, heavy promotion and ticket sales should not decide what's the best pic... the quality of the film should.
In fact, The Hurt Locker is the lowest-grossing best picture award winner ever.
Maybe this is going to be a trend. I hope so.
